The streaming wars have caused subscription confusion for consumers, and now Verizon is the latest company to turn to bundles to solve the problem and entice people to switch to its latest unlimited plans. On Monday, the wireless giant announced a new perk for its latest “myPlan” customers: a $10-a-month subscription to the ad-supported version of Max and Netflix.

The carrier says the new bundle is only for its wireless customers on its latest plans called Unlimited Welcome, Unlimited Plus, or Unlimited Ultimate. Those on older offers will need to change their plans to one of these options to qualify. The new benefit will be available from December 7.

Verizon’s latest plans removed the full inclusion of perks like the Disney Bundle (ad-free Disney Plus and ad-supported Hulu and ESPN Plus) with its unlimited plans, and instead let customers choose what kind of perks they want for $10 per month. So if someone just wants wireless service without streaming, they can get that, while if you want Disney offerings, more hotspot data, or subscriptions to services like Apple One or Walmart Plus, you’ll have Each for $10 a month.

In short, Verizon bundles pitches it as a way to pay for the services you want at a discount while not paying for the things you don’t use.

Benefits like the Disney Bundle will allow you to save $9 per month because you’ll be getting it for $10 per month through Verizon instead of the usual $19 per month from Disney.

The Apple One offers savings of about $10 per month compared to buying separately from Apple, while Walmart Plus will save $3 per month through Verizon as opposed to buying directly from Walmart.

Max runs $10 per month with ads (or $100 if purchased annually) while Netflix Standard with ads runs $7 per month. The Verizon bundle will save you $7 per month compared to paying monthly subscriptions to both services (or $5.33 per month if you have the annual Max deal with a monthly subscription to Netflix).

In theory, anyone with this new Netflix and Max bundle, Disney bundle, Apple One, and Walmart Plus can pay Verizon $40 a month and get ad-supported Netflix, Max, Hulu, ESPN Plus, and Paramount Plus.

can access the version. (since Walmart Plus includes Paramount Plus Essentials) as well as ad-free versions of Disney Plus and Apple TV Plus (via Apple One, which also includes Apple Music and Apple Arcade).

The move is also interesting as it takes two streaming services offered by Verizon’s rivals and makes it available for its users. T-Mobile has long bundled in Netflix with a variety of its wireless plans, while AT&T used to offer Max (when it was under the HBO Max name) as part of some of its wireless plans.

T-Mobile still offers ad-free Netflix with many of its offerings. AT&T stopped including Max on its top plan in June 2022, although in August of that year, it revealed that it had bought Max parent Warner Bros. has agreed a new deal with Discovery that could see it bring back the bundle in the future. While the deal was announced a year ago, AT&T has yet to offer the Max with any of its traditional wireless plans that include the Max with ads on one of its Cricket prepaid offerings.

Bundling different streaming services can bring back memories of traditional cable packages, and the trend may not be limited to Verizon’s packaging of Netflix and Max. The Wall Street Journal reported last week that Apple and Paramount have discussed creating a joint offering that includes Apple TV Plus and Paramount Plus in one subscription, suggesting that other streaming services may be shortly.
